Wildlife Wendy & her Tropical Birds
Wazoo Congo African Gray You can find my species in the Congo region of Africa. 1995 in Shadow Hills, CA I love to eat just about anything as long as it's healthy for me, I don't care much for junk food. Unlike most African Grays, I enjoy performing in front of an audience. I love to whistle and can make any kind of noise I can think of, it's fun! You may have seen me on numerous television shows such as The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. When I'm not performing, I like to pretend that I am performing and create new sounds. My favorite toys are paper cups and colorful beads.
Skipper Blue and Gold Macaw Central and South America 2008 in West Palm Beach, FL My favorite food is peanuts (My nick-name is Peanut Breath). I also love banana, apple, carrots, spaghetti, pizza, parrot pellets and seed mix. I'm the class clown of the the flock. I thrive on attention and affection. I'm very curious and love to slide down my perch during the show to check out what's happening and be the vacuum for any fallen sunflower seeds off the ground. I'm very smart and have proven to be quite the escape artist from my enclosure.
Halley Catalina Macaw You wouldn't find my species in the wild because I'm a hybrid. I'm part Blue and Gold Macaw and part Scarlet Macaw, these birds are found in the rainforest in South America. 1993 in Santa Paula, CA My favorite foods are fruit, vegetables, cottage cheese, pasta, nuts and monkey chow! My favorite time of day is bath time, birds need to bath on a regular basis, no soap, just water please. I enjoy performing in the show and I love to show off by hanging on my perch by my beak, it provides a wonderful stretch for my neck. I am fun, sassy and always ready for an adventure!
Kaspar-Nellie Goffin Cockatoo I'm native to the Timor Islands off of Indonesia. 1998 in La Cresenta, CA My favorite foods are peanuts, corn, and seed (I'm rather finicky about food). I'm very smart! I love humans and always enjoy being the center of attention. I have a lot of energy, so I get my exercise by flying in the show. I also play basketball and shake hands (or claws) with someone new. When I was four months old, I appeared in the movie “Being John Malkovich” with Cameron Diaz and John Cusack! You've also seen me on “Soap Talk” and “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno”.
Dixie Yellow-Naped Amazon My ancestors originate in South and Central America. 2008 Dried papaya, peanuts, popcorn, pasta, pizza, parrot pellets (anything that begins with the letter "P" just kidding)apple, carrots, banana and seed mix. Dixie definitely looks up to her big sister "Pepper" and loves to sing with her! She's learning new songs too! Dixie is a copy cat! She loves to sing with Pepper and repeat all of Pepper's vocabulary. Dixie enjoys climbing upside down on the ceiling of her enclosure and flies to Pepper's house to say "hello". Dixie likes attention and loves to have her photo taken with people. Right now, Dixie is learning to sing "God Bless America... my home Tweet home"!
Pepper Yellow-Naped Amazon My ancestors originate in South and Central America. 1980 in Southern, CA My favorite foods are popcorn, dried papaya, peanuts, vegetables, fruit and pasta. I spend most of my time preening my feathers and will always take a bath when a vacuum cleaner is on. I am the oldest member of our flock and may very well live into my 80's! I love to sing in the show, as long as it doesn't interfere with my daily nap. Regardless, I rise to the occasion, my main objective in the show is to promote acceptance of different personalities and reading about parrots before bringing one home.
Tango Red Crested Turaco (too-rock-o) We are found in the rainforest of Africa. 1997 in Palos Verdes, CA Turacos eat only soft, mushy fruit (hey, we’re soft billed birds!). My personal favorites are papaya, mango, kiwi, grapes and bananas! I'm not related to parrots at all! I belong to the soft bill family. Some of my relatives are the toucan and mynah birds. I enjoy being in the show and having a chance to show off my beautiful wings when I fly through the crowds. When not performing, I enjoy my outdoor aviary where I bath and preen all day!
Chico - "In Loving Memory" Swainson's Toucan There are approximately 40 species of toucans. Chico hatched in his homeland of Nicaragua in April of 2004. Chico's favorite things are papaya, taking baths and playing with all of his squeaky toys! For all of those who had the opportunity to meet him, you know how lucky you are!
